Nicole Sullivan on World's Greatest Magic

Version 1.0

Nicole Sullivan with Mac King

Nicole Sullivan learns a trick from magician Mac King. Trivia question: In what other television program can Nicole Sullivan be seen in a Caesar's Palace uniform?

Nicole Sullivan appeared on World's Greatest Magic V on November 25, 1998 (the special was recently rebroadcast on Fox Family). She appeared in two segments which combined ran for about two minutes and ten seconds. World's Greatest Magic, for the uninitiated, was a series of specials which aired in November every year (usually just before Thanksgiving) every consecutive year from 1994 to 1998 (there were five specials total). These specials were hosted by John Ritter and featured a variety of magic acts. This installment featured appearances by magician Mac King; these segments appeared at regular intervals throughout the two-hour special and involved King demonstrating various magic tricks, aided by various celebrities. In one of these segments, King calls for a waitress, and Nicole Sullivan emerges, bedecked in a Caesar's Palace waitress's uniform (which is appropriate, since the segments apparently were taped at Caesar's Palace). He immediately recognizes her, and asks what she is doing working as a waitress. She looks around apprehensively, apparently worried that someone else might recognize her (or might have overheard King mentioning her name), and explains that she's working to meet a car payment; she is poor because she works for Fox. [Since this show originally aired on NBC, the network must have relished this dig at its low-budget rival.] King shows her how to turn a fork (and a dirty one, at that) into a knife. The secret is to place a knife under the napkin beforehand; a fork is placed on top of the napkin (for all to see); the napkin is then rolled up and flipped around (knife-side up) so that when the napkin is unfolded, the knife is inside. Yes, it's pretty elementary stuff, but what were you expecting in two minutes - the levitation of the Pentagon? [The grand finale of the show involved levitating someone across the Grand Canyon. I had an even better idea: making the Grand Canyon disappear; it would take at least a year and require the assistance of someone with a soil removal company. I haven't worked out all the details yet, but then again, I'm not a details-oriented person.]
