Now that Kim Possible is on ABC, I decided to devote a section
of this website to it. Kim Possible is yet another product of
the Disney/ABC television factory. The main protagonist, Kim Possible,
is a seemingly normal teenage girl, with normal teenage preoccupations,
like clothes and acne. Unlike most teenagers, however, Kim Possible is
also some sort of James Bond-type secret agent, who is often off battling
various malefactors. Dr. Drakken is the recurring villian, and Shego
(voiced by Nicole Sullivan) is his sidekick. Kim Possible is aided in
her crime-fighting endeavors by her best friend/sidekick Ron Stoppable,
a relatively unremarkable teenage boy (he comes across as a goofball,
but not an overly fatuous one) who keeps a naked mole rat called
Rufus. Her parents (her father is an engineer and her mother is a surgeon)
are generally supportive of her pursuits. An interesting touch here is
that Kim is too young to drive, and as a result must rely on people whom
she saved in previous adventures to help her get to wherever she must
go to battle evildoers. Also, Kim sports a bare midriff in most scenes,
making her sexier than most children's cartoons. There are shades
of Buffy the Vampire Slayer here (an attractive, popular high
school girl leads a double life); the difference here, of course, is
that there isn't really anything that would be unsuitable for most
children.
The evil Shego (voiced by Nicole Sullivan) from Kim Possible.
Kim Possible is just one of the more recent projects with which Ms. Sullivan has busied herself since leaving Mad TV. While past experience suggests that her work on Kim Possible will not catapult her to the next level of stardom, playing the role of Sheego was still a good choice on her part. Based on the first ABC episode ("Kim Possible Bueno Nacho"), it would seem that Shego upstages Drakken in most scenes, and the dialogue between Shego and Kim Possible provides some of the sharpest, wittiest repartee in the show. One could easily state that the real conflict on the show is between Kim and Shego - both attractive and with a keen fashion sense, although one works for the forces of good and the other for the forces of evil.
I haven't watched all the episodes of this series, but as I do, I intend to post more summaries of the shows. And who knows: I may post some more vidcaps and/or video clips, time permitting. Here's a rundown of the episodes I have watched so far:
