Nicole Sullivan on TV

Nicole Sullivan moved to the Los Angeles area in 1991. Since then, she has made several appearances on various television programs, mostly on the Fox Network. Here is an incomplete listing of Nicole Sullivan's various television appearances.

NOTE: This filmography only covers Nicole Sullivan's television career. For a movie filmography, see my Nicole Sullivan on Film page.

Table of Contents

Herman's Head

As far as I know, Ms. Sullivan's first television appearance was on an episode of Herman's Head, first telecast on December 1, 1991. Here is an excerpt from the Herman's Head episode guide:

 12. 12/01/91  "THE LAST BOY SCOUT"  (11)   {8.0/13}
 Graham Yost

Herman buys a stolen computer, and then his conscience drives
him to extraordinary lengths to try and get rid of it.

    Bob Randall ....... Earl Boen
    Uncle Harry ....... John Disanti
    Frank Keller ...... William Utay
    Dierdre ........... Janet Gunn
    Young Woman ....... Nicole Sullivan
    Man ............... Victor Wilson

As you can see, Nicole Sullivan is the "Young Woman." I had the misfortune of watching several episodes of this rather weak Fox TV sitcom, which ran for about two and a half years. I do not recall whether I saw this particular episode, although I do remember watching several episodes in late 1991 and early 1992. I should note however, that given the relatively poor quality of the program, Ms. Sullivan could only have been an improvement.

The Golden Girls

No information on this one, but as the show ran from 1985 to 1992, and Ms. Sullivan moved to Hollywood in 1991, we can deduce that her appearance was probably in an episode from the last season of the show. The Golden Girls episode guide does not lend any intelligence in this direction. Please send e-mail if you have any information on this.

Diagnosis Murder

Nicole Sullivan next appeared on an episode of Diagnosis Murder that aired on October 21, 1994. Here is some additional information on this episode, taken from a Diagnosis Murder episode guide:

25. "Murder Most Vial"

Guest Stars: Ken Kercheval [William P. Bissell], Wendy Phillips [Dr. Karen Fielder], Amy Steel [Jenny Morley], Christina Belford [Amy Bissell], John Rubenstein [Thomas Taylor], David Selberg [Lawrence Bloustein], David Kagen [Detective], Anne Betancourt [Nurse #2], Nicole Sullivan [Nurse #1], Lee Newman [Dan].

A catankerous patient at Community General is given a double injection of his medication, eventually leading to his death. Jack suspects a doctor he's had a grudge against for a long time. Despite Mark's objections, Jack sets out to prove his "enemy" is the killer.

Nicole Sullivan appears as Nurse #1. I saw this one; more information can be found at my Nicole Sullivan on Diagnosis Murder page.

Party of Five

Ms. Sullivan next appeared in the Fox Network's hit drama program, Party of Five, in an episode first broadcast on November 21, 1994. Here is some additional information on this episode:

#10 Private Lives: Aired Monday, November 21, 1994
Written by W.K. Scott Meyer, directed by Peter O'Fallon
Rating: 6.3

A social worker makes an unexpected visit--and Claudia's missing; Julia's job requires her to wear a revealing costume; and Charlie is doing another nighttime disappearing act. Additional Cast Mrs. Gideon......La Tanya Richardson Morgan......Peter Dobson Professor......Harry Johnson Terry......Nicole Sullivan Dana......Lauren Kenny O'Fallon

Nicole Sullivan appears as Terry, a waitress who is a co-worker of Julia's. This was the tenth episode in the first season of what would prove to be a major hit series for the Fox Network. I saw this episode; my review and analysis can be found on my Nicole Sullivan on Party of Five page.

Models, Inc.

This was a relatively short-lived Fox TV series (a phrase which is often redundant) which ran from June 1994 to March 1995. Apparently it was a spin-off of "Melrose Place." Ms. Sullivan appeared in "Of Models and Men," an episode broadcast on December 14, 1994. Here is some additional information about this episode:
Wednesday December 14

Dec. 14 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (MI-120)

Cast:Linda Gray as Hillary Michaels, Cassidy Rae as Sarah Owens, Carrie-Anne Moss as Carrie Spencer, Kylie Travis as Julie Dante, Teresa Hill as Linda Holden, Cameron Daddo as Brian Petersen, David Goldsmith as Eric Dearborn, Stephanie Romanov as Monique Duran and Garcelle Beauvais as Cynthia Nichols.

Guest Cast: Kaela Dobkin as Kristy, Lonnie Schuyler as Ben Singer, Nancy Lee Grahn as Detective Towers, Yvonne Farrow as Dr. Brennan, Daniel Guzman as Hector Suazo, Nicole Sullivan as Elaine, Todd McKee as Mike McClain, Geraldine Farrell as Nora and Cindy Katz as Jody.

Nicole Sullivan appears as Elaine, whoever that was. I never watched this show, so I cannot comment on how good it was or the relative merits of Ms. Sullivan's performance.

Madman of the People

I have no additional information on the air dates of Ms. Sullivan's appearances in this short-lived Fox Network series, nor do I have any information on what character(s) she played. Apparently, this was yet another attempt to launch a Dabney Coleman sitcom. I never saw it, although I thought he was good in the short-lived Buffalo Bill, Slap Maxwell Story, and Drexell's Class. Maybe some day he will find success on this level. This show aired in the 1994-95 season, and did not do too well.

Mad TV

Original Cast:

* Craig Anton appeared in the pilot episode, but was replaced by Bryan Callen. Craig Anton later made a special appearance in Episode #205, and rejoined the cast in season three.

Here's where Ms. Sullivan got her big break. After several years of making guest appearances on various sitcoms and drama series, she was hired by the producers of MAD TV as a regular cast member, in spite of her relative inexperience in the realm of sketch comedy (Ms. Sullivan was an actress, not a comedienne). She quickly established herself as the breakout star of MAD TV, the Fox Network's answer to Saturday Night Live. Some of her more popular characters include the Vancome Lady (a woman who thrives on withholding assistance from people with a hiss of phony regret that sounds something like "shaaaaah"), Amy, the nose-ringed, sullen co-anchor of "X-News," Antonia, a clueless fast-food worker who finds simple tasks like telling Santa Claus what she wants for Christmas to be a monumental challenge, and Diane Lawyer-Trabajo, the News at Six anchor who seems fixated on the possibility of a sudden attack from killer bees.

The Late Show with David Letterman (10/2/96)

Just so you don't think I forgot, I note here that Nicole Sullivan appeared on The Late Show on October 2, 1996.

The Drew Carey Show

Ms. Sullivan appeared in an episode of ABC's hit sitcom The Drew Carey Show. This episode originally aired on Febraury 26, 1997. Here is some additional information on this episode:

"Drew Gets Married"

Brett Butler [ Grace Kelly ]
Jerry Van Dyke [ Luther Van Dam ]
Joely Fisher [ Paige Clark ]
Jeremy Piven [ Spence Kovak ]
Nicole Sullivan [ Diane ]
James Leisure [ Alan ]
Miles Marisco [ Joey ]
Mika Borem [ Sarah ]
Julie Uribe [ Julie ]
Michael Winslow [ Jimi Hendrix ]
Macka Foley [ Security Guard #1 ]

A woman Drew meets in Las Vegas tricks him into marriage so she
can retain custody of her children.

b: 26 Feb 97 pc: _________ w: Robert Borden d: Sam Simon

NOTE: As part of ABC's Viva Las Vegas night, characters from
the four shows airing this evening met each other in Las Vegas.
In Grace Under Fire, Grace becomes Drew's good luck charm at the craps table.
In Coach, Mimi and Luther bid against each other for Elvis memorabilia.
In Drew Carey, Luther becomes Drew's bad luck charm at the craps table.
In Ellen a dazed Spence asks Drew for help finding Caesar.

Nicole Sullivan played Drew Carey's short-lived wife in this episode. As far as I know, Ms. Sullivan never commented publicly on her appearance in this episode, although in an interview she stated that she thinks Christa Miller gets some good lines, and that she thought it "would be an amazing show to play." More information on this show (and some video clips) can be found on my Nicole Sullivan on The Drew Carey Show page.

The Late Show with David Letterman (5/22/97)

Nicole Sullivan appeared as a guest on The Late Show for the second time on May 22, 1997. Interestingly enough, I think Wendy Leibman, who appeared on the same episode as Nicole Sullivan when Ms. Sullivan returned for a third appearance in June 1998, was also featured on The Late Show the very same week of this second appearance.

Fired Up

Nicole Sullivan appeared in episode seven of the second season of Fired Up, a sitcom that appeared on NBC. This episode aired on November 10, 1997, and was called "The Baby-Sitter's Club." Here is the guest cast:

This sitcom apparently first aired in April 1997 as a mid-season replacement; the last episode aired on February 8, 1998 and the show was cancelled after a 22-episode run. Recently, however, the show has resurfaced on the USA Network, thus giving me a chance to screen this episode. More information about this episode can be found on my Nicole Sullivan on Fired Up page.

It has recently (February 2000) come to my attention that Nicole Sullivan made a second guest appearance on this show. "The Pajama Game" did not air during the show's original run on NBC (the last episode aired was February 9, 1998; "The Pajama Game" would have been the next episode and thus probably would have aired on February 16). More information on this episode can be found on my Nicole Sullivan on Fired Up (second appearance) page.

Special: When New Year's Eve Attacks!

This is a television appearance by Nicole Sullivan of which I was unaware, and which I discovered in late March 1998 while surfing the Internet. This was a Fox New Year's Eve special which aired December 31, 1997 - January 1, 1998 from 11:00 PM to 12:30 AM EDT. Unfortunately, I went to sleep early that night and missed it (did not know Nicole Sullivan was going to be on; sorry about that). This special was hosted by David Alan Grier, and was hosted from the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. In addition to Nicole Sullivan, MAD TV's Craig Anton also was scheduled to appear, along with musical groups Third Eye Blind, Chumbawamba and Sugar Ray.

Battle of the Sexes II

I recently (June 27, 1999) discovered that Nicole Sullivan was apparently one of the judges in Battle of the Sexes II, at least part of which consisted of a skating contest which pitted male figure skaters versus female figure skaters. This special apparently aired on the Fox Network in January 1998. I did not see this special, and I have no further information on it.

The Late Show with David Letterman (6/10/98)

Ms. Sullivan was on The Late Show with David Letterman on June 10, 1998. The segment ran about seven minutes and consisted mostly of her recounting a bungee-jumping experience (which apparently can be quite safe if done properly). More information can be found on this telecast on my Nicole Sullivan on The Late Show page.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (9/8/98)

Ms. Sullivan was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on September 8, 1998. The other guests were Jean Claude Van-Damme and En Vogue. On the whole, I thought the segment was better than her previous appearance on the Late Show. Conspicuously absent from this interview was any mention of her absence from Mad TV. Further information on this telecast can be found on my Nicole Sullivan on The Tonight Show page.

KISS Live

Nicole Sullivan co-anchored (with Aries Spears) coverage of the KISS Halloween concert simulcast live from Dodgers Stadium on November 1, 1998 at midnight (this was broadcast live, at least on the east coast of the USA). This special ran for 30 minutes; Sullivan and Spears interviewed various concert-goers in between songs. The Smashing Pumpkins also appeared.

World's Greatest Magic V

Nicole Sullivan appeared in World's Greatest Magic V, a special that aired on NBC on November 25, 1998 from 8:00 to 10:00 PM (EST). Mac King shows her how to turn a fork into a knife. More information on this appearance (and a video clip) can be found on my Nicole Sullivan on World's Greatest Magic page.

Baby Blues

Nicole Sullivan has also announced that she will be doing a voice-over for a new WB series called Baby Blues. Few details are known about this show, other than the fact that it is a cartoon based on a comic strip. Also, the show was scheduled to debut in December 1998, but the air date was postponed to Fall 1999. Recently, a WB press release announced that the show has been added to the 1999-2000 season lineup as a midseason replacement.

Even more recent news: according to one of the production assistants who worked for the show, Baby Blues will debut in Summer 2000.

The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn

Nicole Sullivan also appeared on The Late Late Show on August 2, 1999. The first guest was D.L. Hughley. More information on this appearance can be found on my Nicole Sullivan on The Late Late Show page.

MTV's All Star League

Nicole Sullivan participated in MTV's first annual All Star League Tournament. The tournament aired at least twice on MTV: on August 26, 1999 and August 28, 1999. This was a series of events taped over a four-day period in the Bahamas; she competed against celebrities such as Charlie O'Connell and Jennifer Aspen. She placed second overall and was the first-place winner on day three of the competition. More information about her participation in this event can be found on my Nicole Sullivan on MTV's All Star League page.

Pepper Ann

Nicole Sullivan provided the voice of Tundra Woman in episode 302 (season three episode two) of Pepper Ann, an animated Disney series which airs on ABC on Saturday mornings. The show aired on September 18, 1999; her contibution was in the second short (there are two shorts per half-hour show), "Girl Power." Here is some additional information about this segment:

Girl Power

Moose is appalled when the new "Tundra Woman" cartoon is a cliched "girls' cartoon" that has Tundra Woman shopping and doing her hair.

Tundra Woman Nicole Sullivan
Ice Thoron Rob Paulsen
Pengy Rob Paulsen
Narrator Jim Cummings

Additional information on this program can be found on my Nicole Sullivan on Pepper Ann page. Unlike Baby Blues (which Ms. Sullivan has mentioned at least three times during various guest appearances on TV shows), as far as I know she has not mentioned this role on any of her other television appearances.

More information on this appearance can be found on my Nicole Sullivan on Loveline page.

Talk to Me

This upcoming (April 2000) ABC sitcom stars Kyra Sedgwick as a talk show host. The supporting cast includes Beverly D'Angelo and Nicole Sullivan. More information on this series can be found on my Nicole Sullivan on Talk to Me page.

This is another upcoming cartoon (it's a direct-to-video production slated for release sometime in 2000) for which Nicole Sullivan provides voices for one or more cartoon characters.
